Understanding Local Weather Patterns
Pre and Post Regatta Delivery Routing
In the days prior to racing, the race day outlooks help you monitor the current, on-site weather, and what is expected. This helps you start anticipating the conditions and developing the strategy you are likely to need to be successful.
Gain an edge before you start by allowing you and your afterguard to anticipate race conditions. This package discusses the various weather patterns and their associated winds that typically affect the route. It covers wind directions, sea states, cloud types and other special considerations. It enables you to make informed judgments about hull modifications, rating changes, crew weight, new sails, and other strategic decisions.
A statistical study of wind data available from the nearest weather station or buoy:
- Percentage of wind directions and corresponding wind speeds
- Peak winds speeds and the corresponding wind direction
- Frequency of thunderstorm activity
- Normal high and low temperatures along with the record high and low temperatures
A text discussion consisting of:
- Frequency and types of frontal passages
- Frequency and strength of low and high pressure areas
- Sea and land breeze frequency and orientation
- Typical cloud types and formations
These simulations are designed to allow the afterguard to review and practice their decisions about strategy before the race using the real-time conditions on the course.
Initial Package
- A written discussion of the weather, maps, wind forecasts, and routing suggestions. In other words, all the information you will have at the start of the race.
Subsequent Updated Packages
- Faxed to your afterguard containing the current surface map and available wind information during the previous 24 hours. The discussion covers cloud features, atmospheric pressure changes, and other clues that anticipate wind shifts.
Special attention is given to avoid bad weather that can be dangerous to an under-manned delivery crew and cause damage costing days and dollars to repair. It also gives your team more time on the water to test sails and practice.
- Up to an 8-day text weather outlook
- Accompanying weather surface maps
- Wind and weather forecast along the sailing route
- Departure time and routing suggestions
- Jenifer Clark's Gulf Stream analysis when applicable
